{"id":81,"date":"2015-11-10T10:37:28","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T15:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/?p=81"},"modified":"2025-12-19T14:21:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T20:21:19","slug":"lesson-101-listen-to-your-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/index.php\/2015\/11\/10\/lesson-101-listen-to-your-customers\/","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 101: Listen to Your Customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I regularly answer Customer Care calls that come into our offices. \u00a0As the founder and CEO, I think its important to be customer facing at all times. \u00a0If you&#8217;re passionate about your idea then put yourself in a position to be a &#8216;real&#8217; person to your customers.<\/p>\n<p>We had recently got an email from a new customer who was having some trouble navigating and understanding the site and sent an email entitled, &#8220;CALL ME&#8221;. \u00a0I had remember this customer before, named Gary, and wanted to follow-up with him myself. \u00a0I had emailed him directly and told him that I would make myself available to him at his convenience. \u00a0It happened that Saturday morning was the best for both of us. \u00a0For almost 2 hours we had a delightful conversation about what he &#8216;loved&#8217; about the idea of Siftsort.com, the need it fulfilled in his\u00a0world and how he was actually using the heck out of the site, but confused about a few things that he emailed about beforehand. \u00a0In the end it was really simple things but brought up very good suggestions about our User Interface, that we had completely overlooked. \u00a0Lesson 101: &#8220;Listen to your customer&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>We both have the same CPA (who uses Siftsortpro.com) which is why he is using Siftsort.com. \u00a0After telling him\u00a0almost my life story including\u00a0being a former\u00a0Wall Street IT executive and he did the same, he asked if I would speak to his son who was in the recruitment business for financial firms and needed guidance. \u00a0I was more than happy to and spent another 20 minutes with his son who was looking for referrals to\u00a0candidates with high-level IT skills. \u00a0&#8220;I know quite a few&#8221;, I said to him which led to &#8220;we should meet up for a coffee sometime&#8221;. \u00a0During our conversation, his son mentioned relationships with a few banks that my\u00a0company had been trying to network into. \u00a0So there was a mutual interest to make that connection as it would possibly be &#8216;good business&#8217; for both of us.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/handshake-deal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/handshake-deal-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Handshake of two glossy characters\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/handshake-deal-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/handshake-deal-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/handshake-deal-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.siftsort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/handshake-deal.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">As CEO, always make yourself &#8216;real&#8217; to your customers.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Needless to say, Gary was most grateful, but so was I. \u00a0 Lesson 102: &#8220;You never know where a conversation will lead to&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I regularly answer Customer Care calls that come into our offices. \u00a0As the founder and CEO, I think its important to be customer facing at all times. \u00a0If you&#8217;re passionate about your idea then put yourself in a position to be a &#8216;real&#8217; person to your customers.
